Lungs are the most important organ in our body and what you eat also affects your lungs. Not many people know about the connection between lungs and diet. The lack of a healthy diet can lead to asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases. One of the research studies in this aspect also finds out that dietary patterns have a significant effect on the respiratory system.

Foods that are best for your lungs are beets, peppers, apples, pumpkin, turmeric, blueberries, and green tea. How do these foods help in managing and controlling lung diseases? Let’s read about this in detail below.

       1. BeetRoot

The first food that can use for improving your lungs healthy is beets or beet greens. They are also known as beetroot, chard, and Swiss chard. This leafy green vegetable is a rich source of nutrients that keep your blood pressure balanced and improve your digestive and brain health. Swiss chard also contains anti-cancer and weight loss properties.

Beets contain vitamin C, carotenoid, potassium, and magnesium that helps in improving the health of the lungs. Therefore many pulmonologists suggest their patients eat beetroots.

       2. Peppers

The next food that will help you to prevent lung disease is peppers. Peppers are rich in antioxidants and therefore it is used for curing many chronic diseases. If you are a smoker then you have to eat peppers because these vitamin C-rich foods are beneficial for curing any damage done by smoking. Besides lungs’ health, peppers also improve the health of your eyes and heart.   

       3. Apples

Apples are rich in fiber and it has many health benefits that keep the doctor away. If you are worried about your weight, heart, diabetes, cancer, and lung diseases then start eating apples.  Apple is an important source of vitamin C and antioxidants that fight against asthma and lung cancer. Therefore start your morning by eating two apples.

       4. Pumpkin

Pumpkin is not the favorite fruit of many youngsters however this food contains important nutrients that prevent lung cancer. It also contains anti-inflammatory properties and antioxidants like carotenoid, zeaxanthin, and lutein. All of these elements aid in increasing improving the lung’s health. The carotenoid is important for smokers as it is an important nutrient that improves your lungs’ health.

      5. Turmeric

Turmeric is also an antioxidant food. You can use it with the milk, tea, or even add it to your food. Turmeric is known as the overall health promoter as it cures the wounds and improves the immune system of the body. It contains an important component named curcumin that aids in improving the lungs’ health.

       6.Blueberries

Like turmeric, blueberries are a rich source of antioxidants that improve the immune system. It contains maldivian, petunidin, cyaniding, delphinidin, and other nutrients that help in improving the respiratory system. It protects your lung tissues from any harmful damage. So if you are a smoker then start eating it for your lungs.

       5.Green Tea

Green tea is best for improving the digestion and immune system. It is also helpful for preventing different types of cancers that include breast cancer, prostate, and colorectal cancer. Its anti-inflammatory properties are helpful for fighting against lung cancer and type 2 diabetes.
